"A Garden of Promise and Dissent" curated by Amy Smith-Stewart opens at the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
Steel conduit, biochar and limestone pouring bowls, ceramic, driftwood, charred wood, medical tubing and trays, and water from the headwaters of nine rivers in Ridgefield
Water Body, Water Time is a time-based sculpture of a living ecosystem. Its steel framework holds biochar and limestone bowls that catch water through a conduit of medical tubing to support native flora. Influenced by my own experience on life support and the cycles of growth, dormancy, and regeneration, it considers the vulnerability of our bodies and waterways.
Poems for Plants, Emily Dickinson 1, 2023
Poem for Plants, Emily Dickinson 1, 2023 envisages a “felt narrative” through objects bought, collected, and recovered from both nature and the constructed world, inspired by a letter written by the American poet Emily Dickinson (1830-1886). Plants communicate with each other and with other life forms. It is believed that humans can commune with plants too, by visualizing their words through touch or even by reading a plant a book.
