Bundle Sculptures

Sculptor Mary Mattingly in her studio in New York with colorful bundle sculptures

I've been making bundle sculptures since 2013.

These bundles are part of an ongoing series of sculptures I started in 2013, which I consider life-support systems. Initially, I bundled most of my possessions into seven large, boulder-like forms that were rolled or pushed to describe the weight of my own consumption.

They are made from what I consider average, often overlooked objects that nevertheless carry significant meaning. These objects are ones I have used, found, or received. They are woven together to tell a story about the more mundane and the interconnected parts of life.
