Last Light/First Light, 2011 | Limited Edition Photograph (one remaining)

Last Light First Light is made by exposing the same roll of 2 1/4 film at dusk and at dawn, so one frame holds two edges of the day. The cross-patterns come from that overlap. I rotate the second exposure 90 degrees, an echo of the Earth’s turning. Atmosphere shows up too: smoke, moisture, salt, cold, haze, reflected in the sun. I began this series in 2000 to slow down and learn from time.
